The tracked prompts where no AI answer named your brand during the selected period. The complement of your visibility score, and the most direct to-do list in AmICited.
Not-ranked prompts are the questions you lose completely: buyers ask them, AI engines answer, and your brand is not in any answer. The dashboard card is labelled Not ranked with the hint “never cited yet”, and on the Prompts page each such prompt carries the status not ranked.
It is the count behind your visibility score, seen from the other side. Visibility tells you the share you win; not ranked hands you the list of the rest. For most teams it is the best place to start work, because moving a prompt from zero to one mention changes more than moving an existing mention up a position.
tracked prompts − prompts where your brand was mentioned
Tracked prompts is every prompt matching the current country and tag filters.
Prompts where your brand was mentioned counts distinct prompts with at least one brand mention of you in the date range, from the engines in the filter.
A prompt is “ranked” as soon as one answer names you, on any engine, at any position. There is no partial state.
The change indicator compares with the previous period of the same length. A decrease is good.
Not ranked means “no mention found in the period”, which is not always the same as “engines ignore us”. Before acting on a prompt, rule these out:
The prompt has not run yet. A prompt added today, or one whose last run failed, has no answers, so it counts as not ranked. Check its status on the Prompts page (processing, failed).
The engine filter excludes it. If you filter the dashboard to one engine and a prompt does not run on that engine (its engine allow-list leaves it out), the prompt still counts as tracked but can never be mentioned there.
The date range is short. A weekly or monthly prompt may simply not have run inside a 7-day window.
The brand name does not match. If engines call you something your brand name does not cover, you are named but not recognized. Open the prompt and read the answer. See why is my visibility zero?.
Dashboard → Not ranked. The count for the period with its change.
Dashboard → Tracked prompts. Each prompt tagged cited or not ranked.
Prompts. Filter by status Not ranked to get the list. The header shows tracked, cited and not-ranked counts for the current filters. Each row carries keyword data (search volume, CPC, competition) that helps you decide which to tackle first.
Start with prompts that have search volume, commercial intent and a clear fit with what you sell. Use the Prompts page intent column and keyword data, or group them with tags.
Read who wins it
Open the prompt. Look at which brands each engine names and which pages it cites. If a competitor wins every engine from the same review page, that page is your target.
Find the missing content
Check query fan-out and prompt coverage for sub-questions none of your pages answer. A cluster of uncovered questions is a new page waiting to be written; AI articles can draft it.
Log the change and measure it
When you publish or get listed, record it as an annotation so you can see whether the prompt flips to cited.
Let your agent triage it
Connected through MCP, you can ask your agent “which of my not-ranked prompts cite a competitor, and from which pages?” and get the shortlist without opening each prompt. See recipes.
# Not-ranked prompts
The tracked prompts where no AI answer named your brand during the selected period. The complement of your visibility score, and the most direct to-do list in AmICited.
The number of tracked prompts where no answer from any engine named your brand during the selected period.
## What it measures
Not-ranked prompts are the questions you lose completely: buyers ask them, AI engines answer, and your brand is not in any answer. The dashboard card is labelled **Not ranked** with the hint "never cited yet", and on the Prompts page each such prompt carries the status **not ranked**.
It is the count behind your [visibility score](/docs/metrics/visibility-score/), seen from the other side. Visibility tells you the share you win; not ranked hands you the list of the rest. For most teams it is the best place to start work, because moving a prompt from zero to one mention changes more than moving an existing mention up a position.
## How it is calculated
tracked prompts − prompts where your brand was mentioned
- **Tracked prompts** is every prompt matching the current country and tag filters.
- **Prompts where your brand was mentioned** counts distinct prompts with at least one [brand mention](/docs/metrics/mentions-vs-citations/) of you in the date range, from the engines in the filter.
- A prompt is "ranked" as soon as **one** answer names you, on any engine, at any position. There is no partial state.
- The change indicator compares with the previous period of the same length. A **decrease** is good.
### Worked example
You track 40 prompts. In the last 30 days your brand was named in answers to 14 of them.
`40 − 14 = 26 not-ranked prompts`, and visibility is `14 ÷ 40 × 100 = 35.0%`.
Win 6 of those 26 next month and not ranked falls to 20 while visibility rises to `20 ÷ 40 × 100 = 50.0%`.
## What else ends up in the count
Not ranked means "no mention found in the period", which is not always the same as "engines ignore us". Before acting on a prompt, rule these out:
- **The prompt has not run yet.** A prompt added today, or one whose last run failed, has no answers, so it counts as not ranked. Check its status on the Prompts page (processing, failed).
- **The engine filter excludes it.** If you filter the dashboard to one engine and a prompt does not run on that engine (its engine allow-list leaves it out), the prompt still counts as tracked but can never be mentioned there.
- **The date range is short.** A weekly or monthly prompt may simply not have run inside a 7-day window.
- **The brand name does not match.** If engines call you something your brand name does not cover, you are named but not recognized. Open the prompt and read the answer. See [why is my visibility zero?](/docs/troubleshooting/visibility-zero/).
## Where to find it
- **Dashboard → Not ranked.** The count for the period with its change.
- **Dashboard → Tracked prompts.** Each prompt tagged cited or not ranked.
- **Prompts.** Filter by status **Not ranked** to get the list. The header shows tracked, cited and not-ranked counts for the current filters. Each row carries keyword data (search volume, CPC, competition) that helps you decide which to tackle first.
## How to work the list
Start with prompts that have search volume, commercial intent and a clear fit with what you sell. Use the Prompts page intent column and keyword data, or group them with [tags](/docs/setup/tags/).
Open the prompt. Look at which brands each engine names and which pages it cites. If a competitor wins every engine from the same review page, that page is your target.
Check [query fan-out](/docs/analyze/query-fan-out/) and [prompt coverage](/docs/analyze/prompt-coverage/) for sub-questions none of your pages answer. A cluster of uncovered questions is a new page waiting to be written; [AI articles](/docs/improve/articles/) can draft it.
When you publish or get listed, record it as an [annotation](/docs/improve/annotations/) so you can see whether the prompt flips to cited.
Connected through [MCP](/docs/mcp/connect/), you can ask your agent "which of my not-ranked prompts cite a competitor, and from which pages?" and get the shortlist without opening each prompt. See [recipes](/docs/mcp/recipes/).
