You do not have to tell AmICited who your competitors are before data arrives. Every AI answer is scanned for brand names, so every brand named alongside you is already counted. The Competitors page lets you pick which of those brands to follow closely, and add others by URL.
Detected vs. tracked competitors#
- Detected competitors are brands AI engines named in answers to your prompts that you are not tracking yet. They appear automatically, with their share and number of mentions, under “Brands we found cited alongside you”. New ones surface as they appear.
- Tracked competitors are the brands you chose. They are pinned in the tracked table and drawn as lines in your competitor charts, next to your own brand.
Tracking a competitor does not change how anything is counted. Share of voice is always calculated against every brand named in the answers, tracked or not. Tracking decides which brands you watch, not which brands count.
Track a detected competitor#
Open the Competitors page
Click Competitors in the side menu. The header shows Tracked, Detected, Your rank, Your share and Category leader for the selected period.
Review the detected list
Scroll to Detected competitors. Each brand shows its share of all brand mentions and its change against the previous period.
Click Add
The brand moves to Tracked competitors and gets its own line in the chart. Its domain is stored when AmICited could resolve one, which also fills in its Web Vitals and sitemap columns.
Add a competitor by URL#
For a competitor that has not been detected yet, or to also track the keywords a competitor ranks for, use Add Competitor:
- Enter the Competitor URL. The Detected domain and Brand name fill in automatically; correct the brand name to the way AI engines write it.
- Optionally click Get top keywords. AmICited lists the keywords that URL ranks for on Google in the selected country, with volume and position. Nothing is pre-selected.
- Tick the keywords you want to monitor, and set their schedule, country and tag.
- Click Add competitor, or Add competitor + {n} prompts if you selected keywords. The competitor is tracked and each selected keyword becomes a prompt on your domain.
This is the fastest way to find the questions where a rival already has demand and you might not be visible. The ranked-keywords lookup costs 0.01 credits, and the new prompts count toward your plan’s prompt limit.
What the tracked table shows#
For your brand (always pinned first) and each tracked competitor, the table shows:
- Share of all brand mentions in the period, its change, and a 14-day sparkline.
- Web Vitals from Chrome UX Report field data, when the competitor has a known domain.
- Authority for the domain.
- Sitemap figures: page count, 30-day change, freshness and dates. Compare sitemaps opens the Competitor sitemaps page (also under Competitors in the side menu), which puts them side by side. A domain shows “Collecting” until its first sitemap scan.
Above the tables, the main chart plots each brand’s daily share of mentions, and a second chart places the cited domains by domain authority against where they ranked. Use the engine, country and date filters at the top to narrow it; competitive position often differs a lot between engines.
Manage competitors#
Competitors are set per domain, so each of your domains has its own list. Use Delete on a tracked row to stop tracking a brand. This only removes it from your tracked list: the brand’s mentions stay in the answers and in share-of-voice calculations, and it reappears under Detected competitors while engines keep naming it.
Each plan caps tracked competitors per domain: Trial 3, Starter 10, Pro 30, Premium and Enterprise unlimited. See plans and limits.
Tips#
- Match the brand name to the answers. If AI engines write “Acme” and you track “Acme Inc.”, the row shows no share. Check the Detected list for the exact spelling engines use.
- Track 5 to 10 rivals, not 30. A chart with every brand in the category is unreadable. Track the ones you lose deals to, plus the category leader.
- Watch the category leader. It is the brand with the largest share across your prompts. If it is not who you expected, your prompt set may be skewed toward a different segment. See choosing the right prompts.
