Reddit appeared in Google’s top 10 organic results on 32.15% of US results pages in Q3 2026, nearly eight times Quora’s 4.11%. That’s the finding from DataForSEO’s Search Insider 2026, which tracked 18–20 million SERPs a quarter for keywords with at least 100 monthly searches.
The number barely moved all year. Reddit held between 30.27% and 33.18% in every quarter since Q4 2025, and its average best position improved from 5.41 to 5.06. GitHub, Stack Overflow and Discord each appear in well under 1% of results.
A stable ranking isn’t the same as stable traffic, though. Reddit told investors it lost more than 1 million search referrals a week in October 2026. This post, part of our series on the Search Insider 2026 findings, covers the data, why other studies report 20% or 37%, and what brands should do with it.
Key Takeaways
- Reddit was in Google’s top 10 on 32.15% of US SERPs in Q3 2026, and between 30.27% and 33.18% in each of the four quarters from Q4 2025.
- Quora appeared on 4.11% of SERPs in Q3 2026, so Reddit’s top-10 presence is nearly eight times Quora’s.
- Reddit’s average best position improved from 5.41 in Q4 2025 to 5.06 in Q3 2026. Its median best position was 5 in every quarter.
- GitHub (0.35%), Stack Overflow (0.22%) and Discord (0.05%) rarely reach Google’s top 10. Stack Overflow is the only one of the five sites that declined every quarter.
- Suff Digital’s 20.5% figure comes from 20,000 desktop SERPs across 24 industries on one day, a much smaller and differently chosen sample.
- Reddit is also the second most-cited domain in Google AI Overviews (25.1M citations) and ChatGPT (3.25M citing answers).
What the data shows
Reddit holds a top-10 spot on about one in three Google results pages, and that share has held steady for a year. In DataForSEO’s quarterly panel, Reddit’s presence ranged from 30.27% to 33.18%, a spread under three percentage points. When Reddit appears, its best result typically sits around position 5.
The panel grew from 18.3 million SERPs in Q4 2025 to 20.0 million in Q3 2026, and Reddit’s count grew with it, from 5.72 million to 6.43 million SERPs. Its share stayed flat, which means Reddit kept pace as the keyword set expanded.
| Quarter | SERPs in panel | Reddit in top 10 | Reddit avg best position | Quora in top 10 | Quora avg best position |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q4 2025 | 18,296,492 | 31.28% | 5.41 | 4.30% | 7.24 |
| Q1 2026 | 17,810,764 | 30.27% | 5.47 | 3.55% | 7.36 |
| Q2 2026 | 18,813,865 | 33.18% | 5.14 | 3.66% | 7.36 |
| Q3 2026* | 19,989,974 | 32.15% | 5.06 | 4.11% | 7.37 |

Reddit versus Quora
Reddit and Quora both host questions and answers, but Google treats them very differently. Reddit reached the top 10 on 32.15% of SERPs in Q3 2026 and Quora on 4.11%, a gap of nearly eight times. Quora also ranks lower when it does appear, with a median best position of 8 against Reddit’s 5.
None of the AI engines we asked about Reddit’s Google rankings on November 7, 2026 made this comparison. It matters if you split community effort between the two platforms: in Google’s organic results, Reddit is the far bigger surface.
The smaller sites follow their own patterns:
- GitHub held steady at 0.32–0.36%, with an average best position around 5.4–5.5.
- Stack Overflow fell every quarter, from 0.27% to 0.22%. Its SERP count dropped from 49,997 to 43,224 while the panel grew.
- Discord appeared on only 0.05% of SERPs, but ranked high when it did, with an average best position of 3.55–3.76. The report doesn’t break down which queries those are.
Why other studies disagree
Published figures for Reddit in Google’s top 10 range from about 20% to 37%, because each study samples different searches. DataForSEO’s 32.15% covers roughly 20 million SERPs a quarter. Suff Digital’s 20.5% covers 20,000 desktop SERPs from 24 industries on one day. SE Ranking’s 37% is a global figure from 2025.
| Study | Reddit in top 10 | Sample |
|---|---|---|
| DataForSEO Search Insider 2026 | 32.15% | US, ~20M SERPs in Q3 2026, keywords with 100+ monthly searches |
| Suff Digital | 20.5% desktop, 15.6% mobile | US, 20,000 desktop and 10,000 mobile SERPs, 24 industries, collected September 23, 2026 |
| SE Ranking | 37% of queries | Global, published October 22, 2025, query sample not stated |
Industry mix explains most of the gap. In Suff Digital’s data, Reddit reached the desktop top 10 for 49.8% of software searches and 3% of real estate searches. A study weighted toward a few industries will land wherever those industries sit. Counting the page matters too: Suff’s figure rises to 25.9% when Reddit links in Google’s discussion and forum boxes are included.
The AI engines blur these differences. When we asked on November 7, 2026, ChatGPT and Perplexity both quoted Suff’s 20.5%, and Perplexity also gave 37% without a source. Neither said how the samples differ.
Rankings are not traffic
Reddit’s steady rankings and its falling search referrals can both be true. Reddit held a top-10 spot on 32.15% of SERPs in Q3 2026. Yet in October, Reddit said it lost more than 1 million search referrals a week, and its CEO named AI Overviews and AI Mode as the leading hypothesis. Ranking on page one doesn’t guarantee a click.
DataForSEO’s panel ends on September 14, so it can’t show October rankings. But Reddit said its referral decline was already getting sharper late in Q3, while its top-10 presence for the quarter was 32.15%. Our post on Reddit’s search traffic drop covers the earnings call in detail.
The same report shows why a page-one ranking earns fewer clicks than before. AI Overviews appeared on 61.43% of SERPs in August 2026, and desktop click-through for position 1 fell from 17.83% to 7.43% in a year, as we cover in organic CTR by position. Reddit’s typical best position of 5 sits further down a page that now often starts with an AI answer.
There’s one more pattern worth noting. Google’s dedicated Discussions and Forums feature appeared on 21.13% of SERPs in September 2024 and 7.42% in August 2026, in DataForSEO’s monthly panel. In the months both panels cover, the feature fell from 14.36% in October 2025 to 7.42%, while Reddit’s organic top-10 presence held between 30% and 33%. The panels use different keyword sets, so this is an observation, not evidence that one caused the other.
Reddit in AI answers
Reddit is visible in AI answers as well as in rankings. DataForSEO counts it as the second most-cited domain in both Google AI Overviews, with 25.1 million citations, and ChatGPT, with 3.25 million citing answers. We compare the two engines’ full lists in the most-cited domains in AI Overviews vs ChatGPT.
Engine and prompt set change the picture a lot. In AmICited’s tracking of 1,905 product-category prompts from June 24 to July 23, 2026, ChatGPT cited Reddit in 7.3% of 5,119 responses, while Google AI Overviews cited it in 0.9% of 2,010 responses. In August, Reddit’s share of ChatGPT citations fell sharply in four days. Treat any single Reddit-in-AI figure as a snapshot of one engine and one prompt set.
What brands should do now
- List the Reddit threads that rank for your keywords. Search your top 20 to 30 non-branded keywords and note every Reddit thread on page one. This is DataForSEO’s own recommendation: check which threads compete with your pages and whether your brand is part of the discussion.
- Check whether AI engines cite the same threads. A thread that ranks in Google and is cited by AI engines is doing double duty. UGC Influence shows which Reddit threads ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity cite for your tracked prompts.
- Take part honestly, and mostly on Reddit. With Reddit appearing nearly eight times as often as Quora, it’s the better place for community effort in Google results. Follow our Reddit optimization playbook and the basics of Reddit optimization: real answers, disclosed affiliation, no planted posts. Our evidence review on whether Reddit improves AI search visibility covers what the effort can and can’t do.
- Measure clicks separately from rankings. If a Reddit thread outranks you, your page may keep its position and still lose clicks. Google Search Queries shows clicks, impressions, CTR and position per query from Search Console, so you can spot a falling CTR at a stable rank.
The takeaway
Reddit is a fixture of Google’s top 10, present on about a third of US results pages every quarter for a year and nearly eight times as visible as Quora. That makes Reddit threads a real part of the competition for most keywords, and a source AI engines draw on too.
But visibility and visits have come apart. Reddit kept its rankings and still lost search referrals. For brands, the useful question isn’t only “do we rank?” but “where is our brand named, in the threads, in the AI answers and on the page, when buyers search?”
