ChatGPT’s 20 most-cited domains
The bar chart ranks the domains ChatGPT cited most often across the tracked prompts. reddit.com leads with 372 citing responses; the tenth-place domain still trails it substantially, which is typical of citation data — a few sources dominate and a long tail follows.

How concentrated is ChatGPT’s sourcing?
ChatGPT’s citations are moderately concentrated: the top 10 domains account for 16% of all domain-citations, while 1,769 domains were cited only once. In practice that means a small group of trusted sources does much of the work in ChatGPT’s answers to these prompts, but the engine also reaches into a very long tail of one-off references. For anyone trying to earn ChatGPT citations, the leaderboard shows the incumbents to benchmark against — but the long tail shows there is room for niche, relevant pages to break through.
The ChatGPT citation profile: community and SaaS dominate
ChatGPT’s top-20 most-cited domains reveal a clear preference profile. The list is dominated by:
Community and discussion platforms: Reddit (#1) is the standout, cited at 7.3% — more than 3× the rate of the next domain. This reflects OpenAI’s Reddit partnership and ChatGPT’s conversational, community-sourced answering style.
SaaS and business platforms: HubSpot , Zendesk, Salesforce , Intercom, and similar platforms fill most of the remaining top-20 slots. These are the domains that produce the product comparisons, how-to guides, and feature documentation that ChatGPT’s prompt set (SaaS, e-commerce, support) demands.
Media and reference sites: YouTube , LinkedIn , and Wikipedia appear in the top 20, reflecting ChatGPT’s use of video, professional, and encyclopedic sources.
Notably absent from ChatGPT’s top 20 are the enterprise and institutional domains that dominate Google AI Overviews ’ top 20. IBM, Microsoft, and government domains — which feature prominently in Google’s AI products — are largely absent from ChatGPT’s leaderboard. This reflects ChatGPT’s different sourcing philosophy: it favors community-generated and commercially published content over institutional sources.
What this means for earning ChatGPT citations
If your goal is to appear in ChatGPT’s answers, the top-20 list provides a template for the kind of domains that succeed:
Be a platform that produces answer-rich content. ChatGPT cites domains that have deep libraries of how-to content, comparison articles, and product documentation. Thin, brochure-style sites do not appear in the top 20.
Be a community where discussions happen. Reddit’s #1 position is a reminder that ChatGPT values authentic, user-generated discussion. Building or participating in community platforms can be a path to ChatGPT visibility.
Be a SaaS platform with comprehensive documentation. The dominance of HubSpot, Zendesk , and Salesforce reflects the SaaS-heavy prompt set. If you are a SaaS company, your own documentation, blog, and comparison content can earn citations.
Practical recommendations
Audit your content against the top-20 domains. For each topic you want to be cited on, check which of the top-20 domains already covers that topic. If they are your competitors, you need to produce content that is more comprehensive, more current, or more specific.
Participate in the communities ChatGPT cites. Reddit, LinkedIn, and other community platforms in the top 20 are accessible to anyone. Contributing high-quality, cited content to these platforms is a direct path to ChatGPT visibility.
Monitor your own domain’s ChatGPT citation rate. Use AmICited to track whether your domain appears in ChatGPT’s answers and how it ranks relative to the top-20 domains.
Methodology
Built from AmICited’s own tracking data. AmICited runs 1,905 tracked prompts through each engine and stores every cited source URL. This leaderboard counts, for each domain, how many of the 5,119 ChatGPT responses (June 24, 2026 – July 23, 2026, 2026) cited it at least once; domains are rolled up to the registrable level (e.g. all reddit.com hosts count together). The prompt set skews toward SaaS, e-commerce
and support topics, so the leaderboard reflects that mix rather than the whole web. Google AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot are excluded here — Copilot returned no citation data in this window.
