Set up tracking
Add a domain
Set up a domain to track: the four-step wizard, how your brand name is matched in AI answers, domain settings, and tracking several domains in one workspace.
A domain is the unit of tracking in AmICited. There is no separate “project”: every prompt, competitor, tag, citation and report belongs to exactly one domain, and a workspace can hold as many domains as your plan allows. This page walks through the setup wizard and the settings that decide how your brand is recognized in AI answers.
Before you start#
- A homepage URL. Enter the site you want AI engines to cite, for example
acme.com. The domain is detected from it automatically. - Your brand name as buyers say it. This is what AmICited looks for in answer text, so it matters more than the URL. See how your brand is matched below.
- A plan with a free domain slot. Trial and Starter include 1 domain, Pro 5, Premium 50, Enterprise unlimited. See plans and limits.
Run the setup wizard#
The wizard opens on your first visit, and again whenever you pick New domain in the domain switcher at the top of the sidebar.
Your domain
Type your Website homepage URL. Once it looks valid, the field shows Detected domain · acme.com. The Brand name field fills itself from the URL (
acme-robotics.iobecomes “Acme-robotics”), so correct it to the name AI engines actually write, such as “Acme Robotics”.Preferences
Choose where the prompts are Tracked from (a country, default United States), the Frequency they re-run (default
daily), and which AI providers to query. All providers your plan includes are selected by default; you must keep at least one. These settings apply to every prompt created in the wizard. See countries and languages, run frequency and AI engines.Prompts
AmICited reads your homepage and suggests prompts your buyers are likely to ask (“Suggested from your site”). Edit them, remove them, or type your own. Below the suggestions you can also tick Keywords you rank for to track them as prompts. A counter shows how many prompts you have selected against your plan’s limit. You can also Skip for now and add prompts later from the Prompts page.
Integrations
Optionally tick the data sources you want to connect afterwards: Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, ChatGPT Ads or Google Ads. Nothing is connected here; this step records what to help you with once setup is done. Click Finish setup.
After you finish, a setup screen (“Crawling the AI web for {brand}”) shows the prompts being run across the engines. The prompts from the wizard are sent on a priority queue so results arrive quickly, usually in a minute or two, and the dashboard unlocks automatically as soon as the first AI answer lands.
Competitors are added later
The wizard does not ask for competitors. AmICited detects the brands named next to you automatically; you choose which to track on the Competitors page once data arrives.
How your brand is matched#
Every AI answer is scanned for brand names. A mention counts as “you” when the extracted brand matches either your brand name or a label derived from your domain name, after normalization (case, spacing and similar variants). The brand name takes priority; the domain label is a fallback.
That is why the brand field matters. If your product is known as “Acme” but you entered “Acme Robotics Inc.”, answers that just say “Acme” may be attributed to someone else and your visibility score will read lower than reality. Use the shortest name that is still unambiguous, and the one people actually type.
Links are tracked separately: when an engine cites a URL on your domain, that shows up as a citation whether or not your brand name appears in the text.
Domain settings#
Open the domain switcher and choose Manage domains to see the Domains page. Each row shows the domain, brand, status and a Settings button. The Domain settings dialog covers how AmICited reads your own site:
- Which URLs count as the same page. Known vendor tracking parameters are always removed. Add your own Query parameters and pick Ignore these parameters or Keep only these parameters.
- Trailing slash. Whether
/pageand/page/are the same page: Match my site, Always /page/ or Always /page. Changing either setting updates existing reports too, within a few hours. - Crawling a site behind a firewall. If Cloudflare or another firewall challenges the crawler, add a bypass rule there and put the header it expects under Crawl request headers (one
Name: valueper line). Values are stored encrypted. - Automatic URL submission to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, and Site audit scheduling, once those are connected.
The Domains page also has a Create annotations for sitemap changes toggle and Activate/Deactivate and Delete actions. Deleting a domain permanently removes its prompts, competitors, citations and scheduled scrapes.
Tracking several domains#
One workspace tracks many domains, and they share one credit balance and one team. Switch between them with the domain selector at the top of the sidebar; every page, filter and report follows the active domain. Add another with New domain (which reopens the wizard) or Add another domain on the Domains page. When you reach your plan’s cap, the Domains page tells you how many you are using and offers an upgrade.
Use separate domains for separate brands or country sites. Use tags rather than extra domains to split one brand’s prompts by product line or funnel stage.
If tracking pauses#
When the workspace runs out of credits or the subscription is cancelled, the dashboard shows Your domain is inactive and scheduled runs stop. Your data is kept, and tracking resumes automatically once you top up credits or reactivate the plan. See credits.
