How often ChatGPT shows sponsored placements and shopping offers on your prompts, who the advertisers are, and how the ChatGPT Ads reports sit next to your organic AI visibility.
AI answers are no longer only organic. ChatGPT can show sponsored placements and shopping offers alongside its answer. AmICited records both every time it collects a ChatGPT answer for one of your prompts, and keeps them separate from citations, because a paid slot is not a citation. If you also advertise on ChatGPT, the ChatGPT Ads reports put your paid results next to the organic visibility you already track.
Sponsored placements. The advertiser, the ad’s title, snippet, image and link, and its Slot: where the ad appeared among all blocks of the answer (not the advertiser’s ranking).
Shopping offers. Product listings shown with the answer: title, merchants, price, rating and link, where the engine returned them.
Ads and shopping offers come from ChatGPT answers. Other engines’ answers are tracked for mentions and citations as usual.
On the prompt detail page, two KPI tiles summarize the commerce side of a prompt:
Definition
Ad responses
The share of this prompt’s runs whose answer carried at least one sponsored placement.
Range
0 – 100%
Where to find it
Prompt detail → KPI tiles
Ad responses
runs with at least one ad ÷ all runs of the prompt × 100
Ad responses is always shown. “0 of 20 runs had an ad” is an answer (nobody is advertising on this question yet), not missing data.
Product responses appears only when shopping offers were shown, with the number of runs that had them and the total offers (“12 shopping offers shown”).
A prompt ran 40 times in the window, across all its engines. Six ChatGPT answers carried a sponsored placement and four showed shopping offers with 12 products in total.
Ad responses: 6 ÷ 40 × 100 = 15% (“6 of 40 runs had an ad”)
Product responses: 4 (“12 shopping offers shown”)
Open Latest responses by provider and select the ChatGPT answer to see the individual cards under Sponsored placements (N) and Shopping offers (N), below the answer and its cited sources.
Reports → ChatGPT Ads → Competitors (“Who is paying to appear where we are cited for free?”) lists every sponsored placement seen inside ChatGPT answers to your tracked prompts. Each placement links back to the prompt it appeared on, so the same advertiser on three prompts is three rows: where an ad runs is the point. The header counts Ad placements, Advertisers and Prompts.
This view is built from the answers AmICited collects, so it does not need a connected ChatGPT Ads account.
When you connect a ChatGPT Ads account under Data Sources (see ad platforms), the Reports directory gains a ChatGPT Ads group:
Report
Question it answers
Insights
How is the account performing overall?
Competitors
Who is paying to appear where we are cited for free?
Campaigns
Which campaigns are running, and how are they doing?
CAC & ROAS
Which campaigns earn back their imported, attributed spend?
Ad groups
How does a campaign divide, and which part earns?
Conversions
What did the answers convert into?
Audiences
Which customer lists steer targeting, and are they ready?
Ad account
Which account is this, and what is it set to?
The Opportunities group also has a ChatGPT Ads card: “Which creatives are approved, and which are serving?”. You can manage campaigns, ad groups and ads from the same screens.
Paid beside organic, inside ChatGPT. A card that puts spend, impressions, clicks and CTR next to your organic numbers for the domain (cited on, citations, tracked prompts, not cited yet). The two are not a ratio: paid impressions come from whatever queries OpenAI matched, organic visibility from the prompts you track.
Context hints. The questions an ad group should answer. Suggest hints proposes them from your tracked prompts and their fan-out queries, with volume and CPC. Track as prompt turns a hint into a tracked prompt, so you can see whether you are also cited organically for it.
Semantic map. Hints, the landing pages your ads target and the queries ChatGPT derives, plotted by meaning. See semantic maps.
Find prompts with ads and no organic citation. A high Ad responses share on a not-ranked prompt means competitors pay for a spot you could earn. Prioritize those in prompt coverage.
Watch new advertisers. A new name in Competitor ads is often a new entrant in your category before they show up in organic answers.
Don’t pay for what you already win. If you are cited organically on a prompt, check whether your ad group’s hints target the same question.
Track the questions you advertise on. Every context hint without a matching tracked prompt is paid demand you are not measuring organically.

# Ads and products in AI answers
How often ChatGPT shows sponsored placements and shopping offers on your prompts, who the advertisers are, and how the ChatGPT Ads reports sit next to your organic AI visibility.
AI answers are no longer only organic. ChatGPT can show **sponsored placements** and **shopping offers** alongside its answer. AmICited records both every time it collects a ChatGPT answer for one of your prompts, and keeps them separate from citations, because a paid slot is not a citation. If you also advertise on ChatGPT, the ChatGPT Ads reports put your paid results next to the organic visibility you already track.
## What is captured
For each ChatGPT answer, AmICited stores:
- **Sponsored placements.** The advertiser, the ad's title, snippet, image and link, and its **Slot**: where the ad appeared among all blocks of the answer (not the advertiser's ranking).
- **Shopping offers.** Product listings shown with the answer: title, merchants, price, rating and link, where the engine returned them.
Ads and shopping offers come from ChatGPT answers. Other engines' answers are tracked for mentions and citations as usual.
## Per-prompt figures
On the [prompt detail](/docs/analyze/prompt-detail/) page, two KPI tiles summarize the commerce side of a prompt:
The share of this prompt's runs whose answer carried at least one sponsored placement.
runs with at least one ad ÷ all runs of the prompt × 100
- **Ad responses** is always shown. "0 of 20 runs had an ad" is an answer (nobody is advertising on this question yet), not missing data.
- **Product responses** appears only when shopping offers were shown, with the number of runs that had them and the total offers ("12 shopping offers shown").
### Worked example
A prompt ran 40 times in the window, across all its engines. Six ChatGPT answers carried a sponsored placement and four showed shopping offers with 12 products in total.
- Ad responses: `6 ÷ 40 × 100 = 15%` ("6 of 40 runs had an ad")
- Product responses: `4` ("12 shopping offers shown")
Open **Latest responses by provider** and select the ChatGPT answer to see the individual cards under **Sponsored placements (N)** and **Shopping offers (N)**, below the answer and its cited sources.
## Competitor ads
**Reports → ChatGPT Ads → Competitors** ("Who is paying to appear where we are cited for free?") lists every sponsored placement seen inside ChatGPT answers to your tracked prompts. Each placement links back to the prompt it appeared on, so the same advertiser on three prompts is three rows: *where* an ad runs is the point. The header counts **Ad placements**, **Advertisers** and **Prompts**.
This view is built from the answers AmICited collects, so it does not need a connected ChatGPT Ads account.
## ChatGPT Ads reports
When you connect a ChatGPT Ads account under **Data Sources** (see [ad platforms](/docs/integrations/ad-platforms/)), the Reports directory gains a **ChatGPT Ads** group:
| Report | Question it answers |
|---|---|
| **Insights** | How is the account performing overall? |
| **Competitors** | Who is paying to appear where we are cited for free? |
| **Campaigns** | Which campaigns are running, and how are they doing? |
| **CAC & ROAS** | Which campaigns earn back their imported, attributed spend? |
| **Ad groups** | How does a campaign divide, and which part earns? |
| **Conversions** | What did the answers convert into? |
| **Audiences** | Which customer lists steer targeting, and are they ready? |
| **Ad account** | Which account is this, and what is it set to? |
The **Opportunities** group also has a **ChatGPT Ads** card: "Which creatives are approved, and which are serving?". You can manage campaigns, ad groups and ads from the same screens.
